Repost: It’s Been A While, But Never Too Late

Sometimes we allow people and situations to drive us into the proverbial “dark place” of depression or a state of complacency that does nothing but keep us weighed down with unnecessary worry and doubt (ouch). It’s not criminal, it’s human and it is detrimental to our relationship with the Lord.

I was reading from Dr. Charles F. Stanley’s “Life Principal” workbook and was immediately spoken to by the Holy Spirit. That is why I am sitting here now. It’s not like I have not been reminded before to come here, I was stubborn, okay rebellious (double ouch). I’d like to share just a little of what Dr. Stanley wrote from Life Application #24, “To live the Christian life is to allow Jesus to live His life in and through us.” When we do that, we will experience all of the peace, joy, confidence and assurance that are rightfully ours in Christ Jesus.

Everything that concerns us is Christ’s responsibility to care for and not ours … we are simply to obey Him. David’s Psalm, 138:7-8 says “Though I God Has Allwalk in the midst of trouble – Your right hand will save me. The LORD will accomplish what concerns.”

We serve an awesome God. He IS able to accomplish what concerns us because He has all power to defend us, wisdom to direct us, mercy to pardon us, grace to enrich us, righteousness to clothe us, happiness to crown us and love to save us. There it is, everything He promised and is readily available to us …… All we have to do is ask, believing and trusting.

Keep Calm and Rest In God’s Promises

If there is one thing I know to be true about God … it is that He is faithful in keeping His promises. Whether a promise to protect or provide or healing or help in time of need …. God is not a man that He should lie. Even the most well-meaning, sincere and trustworthy person we know will fail to keep a promise at one time or another in our lives…intentional or not.

I am a witness that His promises, in and through Jesus Christ, are faithful – they have been in the past, they are now and they will be fulfilled in the future. And for that reason I rest in hope and assurance.

I wanted to share just a few of God’s promises found in His inspired, divine Word. I encourage you to read them, meditate on them, pray about them, believe them, hold them in your heart and be in eager anticipation of the fulfillment of them.

1 Kings 8:56-61 Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.

Psalm 85:8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints – but let them not return to folly.

Psalm 119:140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.

Psalm 119:147-150 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night that I may meditate on your promises. Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws. My comfort in suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Psalm 145:13-14 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving to all he has made. The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

Acts 13:34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’

2 Corinthians 1:20-22  For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

2 Corinthians 7:1 Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory.

Hebrews 6:11-13 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Hebrews 10:22-24 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

2 Peter 1:3-7 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

1 John 2:24-25 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us-even eternal life.

Facing ‘Monumental’ Challenges

We all face numerous and various challenges throughout our lives. Some as devastating as suffering the loss of a loved one to death, losing a job through a layoff or shutdown, deciding if the person you are in love with is “marriage material” or even accepting a job promotion. While making a marriage proposal or accepting one does not sound like a challenge, we have to be careful that we are not “blinded” by love and offer or accept a proposal that could lead to an unhappy life. And while accepting a promotion could mean more money, there could be other issues – like more responsibility that could take you away from church and family, even demands on your integrity or moral stance.

The Israelites faced a dangerous challenge in 2 Chronicles 20:1-29 when they were faced with a huge number of Edomite warriors coming against them. King Jehosaphat realized his only option was to seek divine counsel from God, so he called the people of Judah together to fast and seek God for help. He prayer in (v 6):  “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.”  In v 12b, he prayed:  “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

The Lord heard Jehosaphat and told him to appoint a choir to march in front of the Israelite army, directing the worshipers to sing “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever” (v. 21)Keep Calm He Shall Give. When the Israelites began to sing, the Lord confused the opposing enemies and they began to attach and destroy each other.

The Lord is no less able to do the same for us when we are facing the enemy in our daily lives. We serve the same God that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Before creation, He was! We have seen time after time throughout the Bible God’s provision and protection of His children. We are of no less value to Him and our challenges are no less critical to us than any of the saints of old and what they faced.

When you don’t know what to do, look to the Lord, let’s march into our challenges worshiping God is spirit and truth, praising Him for what we know He is already doing in our lives and knowing that we have the MONUMENTAL VICTORY through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Teach Us How to Pray, Lord

Paul’s prayer in ColossiansOswald Chambers is appropriate for every person   and every situation. Because it fits perfectly with God’s will, we can make these requests in confidence – both for ourselves and for others:

PRAY to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding: Not only do we need to know God’s plan for our lives; we also require discernment to distinguish His guiding voice from our own self-directed notions

PRAY to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all ways: Our lives should be patterned after the One we follow, with a goal of glorifying and delighting Him

PRAY to bear fruit in every good work: Instead of being wrapped up in our own jobs, possessions, pleasures, and plans, we should be contributing to others’ lives.

PRAY to increase in the knowledge of God: By reading His Word, applying it to our lives, and observing His ways, we will gain a deeper understanding of the Lord

PRAY to be strengthened with His power so we remain steadfast: The Christian life can be lived only with the Holy Spirit’s power

PRAY and joyously give thanks for all that He has done for us: Believers should be characterized by joy and gratitude

Too often, the focus of our requests is on “important” temporary needs and we miss seeing the deeper spiritual work God wants to do. Keep Calm Prayer Changes ThingsTake a moment to think about and consider how effective our prayers will be if we shift the emphasis of them to the Lord’s desires. God will transform you and the people we intercede for.

Dear Lord, thank you, yet again, for showing me how to pray. Forgive me Lord if my requests have been focused more on temporary things instead of those things that are eternal – your will and your kingdom. Holy Spirit, please come into my prayers and “fix” them so they are in line with the will of God, His work and they will be acceptable in His sight. In Jesus Name, Amen
