How Do You Spend Your Time?

We go about our daily lives being governed by time and calendars, our activities and schedules being dictated by them. The alarm goes off in the morning, we either hit the snooze button for a few extra minutes of sleep or we jump out of bed rushing to get ready for work or school. We hurry down the expressway, weaving in and out of traffic to get to our destination on time. At home it could be rushing the kids to get up, dressed and ready for school to catch the bus, get back home to clean and get dinner ready, or get little Jimmy off to football practice. When the pressures of the day mount, we grow agitated, frustrated and complain that there are not enough hours in the day.

But God has given us enough time to do what He has planned for our lives. The big picture is: are we using our time wisely and productively? Are we using our time to do what we have been called to do? When you wake up in the morning, do you take the time, as soon as your open your eyes, to thank God for another day? After you’ve hurried down the interstate and into the office, do you take time to thank God that you arrived safely?

Do you take time for God? Do you have a set time everyday to pray and study the Lord’s Word? Have you taken time to show compassion or empathy with a smile or kind word or a random act of kindness, do you take time to listen to your children when they are vying for your attention?

There are lots of ways to invest in eternity by following God’s plan for your life. What was touched on in the previous paragraph is just the tip of the iceberg. Jesus had 33 years on this earth but only the last 3 of them he spent in fulfilling His Divine ministry. How old are you? How many of those years have you used doing a ministry for the Kingdom. If Jesus can accomplish the will of God in so few years, you can accomplish much more in the time you have been blessed with. Jesus said in John 19:30 “It is finished.” Our work is not finished until he calls us home or at His second coming.

If you need “more time”, ask God for it and His spirit will burden your heart at certain times and perhaps in certain places to do, say or go in His Name. Don’t put it off for another time. You may not have it.

Don’t be “caught’ rushing around doing this and that and none of it the work that God has called you to do.
